Art of Neuroscience Competition 2022 – winners
Now in its 11th year, the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience’s Art of Neuroscience Competition recently announced this year’s winners. Top prize went to artist Daniela de Paulis for her “film recording of a live performance during which the brain activity of deep sleep is transmitted into space in real time.”

Scientific American is a collaborator in the competition, and it has expanded the winning field with a number of ‘Editor’s picks’ (here). Among them is the entry from IICN’s ‘web guy’. The editor chose his Connemara Abstract 1c, shown above; as the accompanying text explains, the work is based on the “concept of syndesis, or binding things together,” which stretches from the surface of the artwork through the neuro level right up to higher cognitive processes (an idea explored further on the Syndetic Art website).
