What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contacting us

If you contact us, we retain your email address indefinitely, for admin purposes. We do not share your details with any external organisations without your permission.

Cookies

If you are a member and visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select ‘Remember Me’, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Currently (2020) there are two types of embedded content:

  • The Twitter feed on the Home page. It drops no cookies at all (if you click on an entry in the feed you are taken to Twitter in a separate tab).
  • Webex

Analytics

There are no external analytics running on this site. Internal analytics may use your IP address (your IP address depends on your service provider, and it is fixed for a variable duration; it is linked to the device you are using and you bring it with you – and it can be read – anywhere you go on the web; it is not linked in a straightforward way to your identity).

We don’t share your data.

How long we retain your data

For members that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All members can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site,  you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

We do not share your personal information with any person or organisation without your permission.

Additional information

How we protect your data

Any membership information is held in an encrypted MySQL database. Any email address, or purchase information, you share / generate with us may be held in variety of forms – the MySQL database, the admin mail program, etc. It is not shared with others.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If a data breach occurs that affects you, you will be notified. If it is a notifiable breach, we will notify the relevant authorities.

What third parties we receive data from

Our calendar functionality is based on a Google calendar accessed using a WordPress plugin. Google is accessed indirectly, so no personal information is shared.

Purchase

We use external services for payments, such as Stripe and Paypal. Cookies may be generated by these services when you make a payment.

When you purchase from IICN, we retain information about the purchase, and about you (e.g., your email, your purchases, and your address), but this information is not shared with others. We do not see your credit-card information.
