Vascular Neurology Research Foundation Charity Cycle
Prof. Dominick McCabe, Tallaght University Hospital, will undertake a 125 KM Charity Cycle on Aug 7th 2026 to help raise much-needed funds for The Vascular Neurology Research Foundation (VNRF.ie), a registered charity.
Stroke is the commonest cause of acquired disability and the second to third commonest cause of death in middle-high incomes countries, including in Ireland.
The VNRF is fundraising for a very worthy cause this year to support the clinically-important, collaborative research programme in Stroke Medicine and Vascular Neurology, led from Tallaght University Hospital / Trinity College Dublin. Their research aims to improve understanding of the causes of Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) and Stroke, and to identify patients with TIA or Ischaemic Stroke who are at a higher risk of experiencing a subsequent vascular event (TIA , stroke, ‘heart attack’, vascular death or dementia) on their prescribed antiplatelet medications.
Their innovative research also aims to better understand the precise clinical and ‘genetic reasons’ why patients are not responding to their commonly-prescribed medications, with a view to treating individuals with ‘personalised antiplatelet therapy’ to improve their protective medical treatment, and prevent disability or death following TIA/ischaemic stroke.
Donations which can be given directly to the VNRF.ie for this purpose are greatly appreciated. Sincere thanks to all who have supported the programme to date.
To donate please visit the secure VNRF.ie website, or by clicking on the website address or scanning the QR code on the attached poster.
