Neurology Update Meeting 2024 Report
The 23rd Annual Neurology Update Meeting, directed by Dr. Ferghal McVerry, took place on Friday, October 11th at the Canal Court Hotel, Newry, Co. Down
Dr. McVerry opened the meeting, welcoming guests, chairpersons, delegates and sponsors to the meeting. He especially welcomed his guest lecturer, Prof. Simon Rinaldi as well as Dr Laura Best, Mr Jonathan Poots, Dr John Craig and Dr Aisling Carr. A special word of thanks was extended to Dr Junie Koay and Dr Antoinette O’Connor who agreed to speak at short notice.
Before introducing the morning session, Dr McVerry presented hospital coding data illustrating the burden and subtype of neurological disorders which require hospital admission nationally, highlighting the need for both breadth of experience and subspecialty knowledge in clinical practice of Neurology in acute hospitals.

Session I - Chair: Dr Ferghal McVerry
Dr Ferghal McVerry, Consultant Neurologist, Altnagelvin Hospital, chaired the first session of the meeting.
Dr. Laura Best, The Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast, delivered a lecture entitled, ‘The Complex Parkinson’s Disease Patient: When to Consider Advanced Therapies.’
Dr Junie Koay, National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London delivered a lecture entitled, ‘Peripheral Nerve Vasculitis: Update and Future Directions.‘
Dr. Antoinette O’Connor, delivered a Dementia Update lecture addressing its ‘Diagnosis and Management.‘
Clinical pearls on examination findings, epidemiology, future treatment strategies and management of acute emergencies were covered along with an interactive session where audience members had the opportunity to pose questions to each speaker.

The Neurology Update Meeting 2024 has received accreditation of 6 CPD credits in the External CPD category by The Federation of the Royal College of Physicians of UK.
