The Health Research Board (HRB) promotes and funds health research on the island of Ireland. It encourages research that results in improved diagnosis, understanding, treatment and prevention of disease and improves efficiency and effectiveness of the health services. Today’s health research is tomorrow’s health service. Through its support for health research, the HRB is contributing to strengthening research capacity on the island of Ireland. Science Foundation Ireland provides awards to support scientists and engineers working in biotechnology and information and communications technology development. It was established in 2000 to administer Ireland's Technology Foresight Fund. SFI uses an international merit review process to choose far-reaching, high-impact research for support in its target areas and to fund excellent scientists and engineers working on the dynamic intellectual frontiers of biotechnology and information and communications technology development.
