Epilepsy / Research Fellow Position - Auckland, New Zealand

A position is available for an Epilepsy Fellow in Auckland, New Zealand for a 12 month fixed term.

The Fellow will be expected to work on several exciting research projects. Approximately 50% of the Fellow’s time will involve clinical epilepsy work.
The research will involve studies undertaken by the EpiNet Study group.  (www.epinet.co.nz)

The EpiNet Study group is running a series of 5 related trials in new onset epilepsy, in which patients are randomized to Levetiracetam, Lamotrigine, Carbamazepine or Sodium Valproate. The particular drugs to which a patient can be randomized depend on the seizure type and the appropriateness of treatment with valproate. The EpiNet-First trials are open pragmatic trials conducted along similar lines to the SANAD trials. The trials are multicenter, international studies which are being run from Auckland Hospital.

The Fellow will also help with the conduct of various trials recruiting patients for pharmaceutical-company sponsored clinical trials. There are likely to also be further EpiNet studies commencing in the next year.

In addition, the Fellow will attend epilepsy outpatient clinics and will be involved with the workup of the patients having surgery. He / she will be expected to report EEGs (and will receive training on this.)

The position is available for one year, starting sometime in March 2017.
Applications close: 18 November 2016.
