The majority of Movement disorder training is in Parkinson’s disease. Approximately 4,000 people in Northern Ireland suffer from Parkinson’s disease. Some of these patients are looked after by Care of the Elderly Physicians and General Neurologists, but for many of these patients there may be doubts about their diagnosis or their management may become too complicated for those not specialised in Movement disorders. Other conditions under the remit of a Movement disorder specialist include other Parkinsonian syndromes, tremors, dystonia, Huntington’s disease, tics and many less well-known conditions.
